I Had An Accident Today

>> Saturday, June 20, 2009

I had an accident today that could have been avoided if I had been watching my 16 month old son better. I let my son go upstairs while I followed behind him making sure he didn't fall. But after we were upstairs for only a minute, I took my eyes off him for maybe 5 seconds which was long enough for him to make his way back to the stairway where when I saw him, he was getting ready to take a step down, so I ran as fast as I could to try and stop him from falling down the stairs and by the time I reached him he was already stepping down and beginning to fall. I was running so fast I couldn't stop and ended up tumbling over his head while pulling him back. I continued tumbling all the way down the stairs while my son tumbled down after me landing on top of me. Fortunately he wasn't injured but I ended up with a few bumps, scrapes and bruises and a broken toe that was sticking straight out sideways. I had to go to the hospital to get it set back into place today. Now I'm sitting here with a broken toe, thanking God that my son is OK. I have learned a valuable lesson, which is never take my son out of my site if there is a danger of him getting hurt or injured.

at least you got hurt doing something that needed to be done.unlike me who tripped going up the stairs from the basement.

you will not be able to protect him 100% of the time. Even if he's within reach, something could happen.

Bob June 21, 2009 at 11:55 AM

I will sure try to protect him 100% of the time.

Sorry to hear about this unfortunate accident. Glad to know you´re both Ok, despites your toe. 16 moths is that age when we have to follow our babies everywhere, every minute.
Thanks for your supportive comment and for sharing your divorce experience. 15 years is a long time, but I´m doing my best to move on. I´m enjoying my freedom...now I can make decisions on my own, blog whenever I like and TG I have my daughter with me and found a full time job I´m enjoying.
Good week ahead!
Regards, Mizé.

oohhh bob,, oohhh my.
glad the baby is okay.
today is your day dad, so sit down and prop up that foot. take an asprin for the pain and enjoy sitting while you get your dads day hugs and kisses. if the pain gets worse, just remember elevate to relive blood flow throbbing and ease it back down.

I can tell you from personal experience, as due to osteoporosis I've broken all my toes at least twice and my ankles too. not fun, especially in the summer. hey here's a thought, you and the gang get in the wading pool and chill out. yeahhh

Happy Fathers Day Bob and Get Better Quick.

Ouch! sorry to hear that.Hope you and your son are okay now. As i was reading your post i remember my husband had an accident yesterday too. he stumbled and bruised his knee. He got tripped on the box we used to blocked our son for going to the kitchen and he was in a hurry coz we were about to leave. Im glad not much injury happened to your son, and I hope you will feel better, and that injuries wont cause big harm on you. I cant imagine how it feels when you rolled down from the stairs.

Wow - I'm so sorry!! That's terrifying to watch happen, but I'm sorry you got hurt trying to save the baby. Thankfully he's okay!

That's such an awful story! Thank God your son is okay, though. They sure a quick little buggers, aren't they? I'm sure you will witness many more boo-boo's over the years. Don't beat yourself up - it's not like you were drunk on the couch letting your son cruise the whole house unsupervised! Honest accidents do happen, and you were there to protect him - the most important part!

I have had a similar experience when my daughter was in her walker some years ago...she fell down the basement stairs and thankfully to laundry that I had not had the time to get to..her fall was broken.
It was a very traumatic incident for me so much more than for her as she was so young and actually thought it was fun.
We just cannot be everywhere all of the time! we can only do the best we can")

My daughter fell from just the 3d step from the bottom and she fractured her arm. She was only 2yo when it happened. Was probably one of the worst days of my life. It happens so fast. Both my wife and I were at the foot of the steps and we couldn't prevent it. I'm glad to hear you both are okay. This is from my old personal blog http://myfrakkinblog.blogspot.com/2008/03/kylie-broken-arm-update.html and here's some pictures http://myfrakkinblog.blogspot.com/2008/04/kylie-broken-arm-update-2.html

While we may have differing political views - at least the well-being of our children is one thing in common!

Again - glad to hear you both are okay. It could have been worse. BTW - I moved that blog to a new location - I haven't added any new posts yet - but - when I do - I'll put it up on EC.
