Buy American Automobiles

>> Tuesday, March 31, 2009

I Received a couple comments about my last post. Apparently I struck some raw nerves when I said some American consumers believe its ok to buy foreign cars instead of buying American cars and supporting the American workers. One comment was to long and went on to bash Obama, so I'm going to reject that one. If you want to bash Obama, do it in your own blog. The other post I think I'll accept, just so my readers can see why some people think it's ok to buy foreign cars.

To The Natural State Hawg who says that him and his wife own two Toyotas that were built here in the USA by American labor. I've heard the same lame excuse from other Toyota owners. Do you know where the profits from those Toyotas go after you buy them? They go straight to Japan, which helps their economy. Who are you supporting? Japan. That's where your hard earn cash is going, instead of stimulating our economy, you're stimulating Japan's economy. The reason Toyota is cheaper than a comparable US made car is because of unfair trade practices by Japan and the fact that Japan artificially devalues their yen so that they can sell their exports cheaper. Another reason is Toyota has only been making a big amount of cars for maybe 20 years, so they don't have a whole lot of retiree pensions to pay out. Another myth is American made cars are overpriced garbage. Where have you been the last 10 years? If you bother to go and test drive a few of the new American made cars by GM, Ford or Chrysler (I don't know about the Pacifica, I never cared for that model), you'll find out that our cars are at least as good, if not better than the new Toyotas selling today. BUY AMERICAN, no more excuses.

Obama's Auto Industry Plan

>> Monday, March 30, 2009

I just saw the news on TV about Obama's announcement that GM and Chrysler are not viable and that both companies must still make more sacrifices before they can receive anymore government loans. President Obama is giving GM 60 days to make satisfactory concessions while giving Chrysler only 30 days to conclude an alliance with Fiat with more worker and union concessions. If successful the government will consider investing 6 billion dollars to help the partnership between Chrysler and Fiat succeed. If not, then the government will not help Chrysler any longer.

Because I'm a retired Chrysler employee, I can't help but be worried for Chrysler's future. If Chrysler fails, not only will 10's of thousands of workers lose their jobs, but the retired workers will also lose their pensions as well. It seems to me that Obama might be willing to let Chrysler fail as long as GM can succeed. That way he can say he kept his promise of saving the auto industry. And why is he asking the union to make more concessions? The UAW has already cut the workers pay below the pay that Toyota pays its employees. If the workers have to make any more concessions it will just cause more hardship on employees trying to provide for their families.

I know I said I would never regret voting for Obama and I still mean it because the alternative would be a McCain administration that would have not only let Chrysler fail, but GM as well. But I feel Obama has let me down along with the rest of the Chrysler employees who voted for him and were depending on him to help Chrysler survive. I hope Chrysler will survive despite the economic downturn that was caused by greedy financial institutions, despite the government's reluctance to help and despite the American consumer who believes its OK to buy foreign cars instead of supporting their fellow American workers.

Added Note: I already received a comment, if you want to call it that, from a Republican. He just left his post url. I'm not going to give him a link in my post so that he can use my blog to spread his greedy and selfish Republican views. I guess he wanted me to accept that as a comment. I went to his blog and read his post. In it he says the poor and middle class Americans are lazy and that the AIG executives deserve the millions in bonuses provided with tax payer money because they worked so hard for it. I say, If they worked so hard, then AIG shouldn't need any help from anyone. What a bunch of BS! Is this guy kidding?

Don't Drink and Drive

>> Tuesday, March 17, 2009

I was watching the news last night and saw a really tragic story. Apparently some stupid drunk 47 year old lady decided it was OK to drink and drive and lost control of her van going about 80 mph in a 45 mph zone, crossed the medium and hit a car with 4 teenagers inside killing all of them. What the hell is wrong with people who think it's OK to drive drunk? Every time someone drives drunk they risk killing someone, yet people continue to do it. Any idiot who drives drunk even once should lose there license for good. This lady will most likely spend the rest of her life in jail for murdering 4 young kids who had their whole life in front of them and rightfully so. To bad she was too stupid to know not to drink and drive. To see the complete story go to this link... http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090317/METRO/903170407

Property Taxable Value

>> Thursday, March 12, 2009

When I received my Notice of Assessment for property taxes in the mail this year I noticed for the second year in row that my assessed value from last year went down and my taxable value from last year went up. How can this happen?, I asked myself. I was already to file an appeal with The Board of Review, then I decided to see if I could get this question answered by Googling my question on the Internet. I found the answer but it still doesn't make any sense to me. At least I know its not a mistake. The government of Michigan knows this law defies all logic but it would take a vote by the full legislature to change it. Something that's not going to happen I'm afraid because our government would lose a great amount of money if they did. I guess all of us in Michigan will just have to accept this rip-off by our government. Anyone who would like to see the Explanation of Proposal A can go to the following link. http://www.clintontownship-mi.gov/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=qmgb1egTtGM=&tabid=56. I just wanted to add that I don't mind paying my fair share of taxes, but I think the explanation should at least make sense. One more thing. If 5% of the population makes 95% of the money, then they should at least pay 95% of the taxes. Thats only fair, and if it takes big government to make that happen, I'm all for big government.
Added Note: I was wrong about 5% of the population making 95% of the income. But here is a fact: In the United States today, the wealthiest 1% of the population owns more than the bottom 95 %. The top 5 % make about half of all combined income. But still the same, if the top 1% owns 95% of everything in the US, then they should pay 95% of the taxes.

No Regrets Voting For Barack Obama

>> Wednesday, March 11, 2009

What is going on with these ads in some blogs asking "Do You Regret Voting For Barack Obama?". My answer is of course HELL NO!. I clicked on the ad just to see what percentage regretted voting for Obama. 46% don't regret voting for him, 16% regret voting for him, and 37% never voted for him.I suspect the 16% that regret voting for him are watching too much of Fox News and listening to too many Republican lies. Here's what else it says when you click on the ad.
Between an expensive stimulus package and questionable appointees, President Barack Obama may have kept the nation divided in controversy rather than uniting it. Now that the Obama has been in the office long enough to make some real changes, do you have any second thoughts about how you voted in the Presidential election?
First of all Obama is doing exactly what he promised in his campaign which is to pick up the pieces left by the Bush administration. Secondly, the nation is only divided along party lines because the republicans refuse to go along with any of Obama's plan's to help our nation recover from a recession that is a direct result of Bush's failed presidency the last 8 years. The question should have been, Do you regret voting for Bush the last 2 terms? I think the answer would have been at least 75% did regret voting for Bush.

Bad Economy In The United States

>> Monday, March 9, 2009

I was watching the news today and heard that the world's economic loss from this recession were in, totals more than 50 trillion dollars. That is money that is lost for good. This shows that not only is the U.S. suffering with this bad economy, but everyone is world wide. Then I started thinking, have we hit bottom yet? When will this downturn stop? I know the answer to this, but I don't exactly know when it's going to happen. This economy will start to improve when people with secure jobs start spending again. By spending, I mean buying big ticket items like cars & trucks, major appliances, furniture and so on. Come on people, if you have a secure job, don't just save your money in a bank, you need to spend it now. If everyone saves their money waiting for this economy to improve, you'll have a long wait and maybe your secure job will be lost to. This bad economy needs investors, that's why the Obama administration has invested our tax dollars in this economy and that's why everyone with extra money just sitting in the bank needs to go out and spend a little of it to give our economy a boost. Some say (mostly republicans) that we should do nothing and the economy will fix itself. That is total BS. If we do nothing this world will see a great depression that will make the last great depression look like a small recession. That's my opinion and I'm sure there many who disagree with me (most of them being republican). So I say, if you have any negative comments to leave, save your time, because I won't accept them.
